The yoga luna story

Yoga Luna was founded in 2024 by Maddie Adams out of a heartfelt desire to provide community centered yoga that honors its philosophical roots and helps us connect and tend to the seasonal rhythms of our lives as an essential part of the path of awakening.

Maddie has been a student of yoga since 2004 and has been teaching since 2011. During her time as a student and teacher, she has navigated her own various life challenges and witnessed the ongoing exhaustion and burnout of many people in the world today. She has also watched the world of yoga change to emphasize fitness and intensity over awakening, mindfulness and inner growth.

Before the pandemic, Maddie was teaching at several studios around town, but as with so many businesses, they all closed down when the pandemic struck. So she adapted and took her classes online, diving into the adventure of building her own business to support her existing community of students. As the pandemic started to ease, she eventually returned to teaching onsite classes, this time in her own rented sublet space.

Over time, she has grown from yoga teacher to business owner and has continued to learn about how to own, operate and maintain a business that centers healing, compassion, and integrity as its foundational principles. Her journey through this process, along with her own ongoing practice and growth, has also taught her the value of centering seasonal cycles and Ayurveda as important aspects of maintaining holistic health and wellbeing.

Eventually, she decided she was ready to expand and build a space for other teachers in the area to offer their own classes and contribute to the budding community that became Yoga Luna.

Yoga Luna was Born

And so Yoga Luna was born! At Yoga Luna, we acknowledge and affirm that we are all cyclical beings and that our lives and wellbeing are tied to and dependent on the many cycles of nature, from the cycles of yearly seasons to the lunar cycle, menstrual cycles, day/night cycles, and down to the smallest cycles of the breath and heartbeat.

We believe that a yoga practice that honors and tends to these rhythms has the unique capacity to awaken us to our own indwelling intuitive knowing (or vidya) and to reconnect us to our true nature as Awareness itself. By honoring the cycles of our lives, Yoga Luna seeks to embrace the wholeness of who we are at every level of being and nourish our capacity for deep healing and clear awareness.
