Welcoming Abundance: Summer Solstice Yoga and Kirtan
Sunday, 6/22, 3-5pm:
Suggested donation $20-40

This event will blend the practices of Hatha Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Kirtan, for a multidimensional approach to honor and welcome in the abundant fullness of the Solstice.

Maddie will lead the first part of this practice with Yoga Nidra and asana (movement/yoga poses). Then Chumki Chakraborty of Moss and Moksha will lead a Kirtan practice. Tea and fruit will be available afterwards.

Kirtan music is an ancient practice in Yoga that is part of a practice known as Bhakti Yoga. Kirtan songs are made up of sacred sounds and mantras that can be sung by anyone, anywhere — it’s less about sounding perfect, and more about the feeling of lovingness, community and celebration. Kirtans have a call-and-response style, where one person sings a line, and another repeats it back, making it perfect for community.

Kirtan experiences can become very meditative and when sung at a slower pace, or can be sung at a rhythmic faster pace and can feel ecstatic and moving. Modern neuroscience recognizes singing and sound practices as very beneficial for regulating the vagus nerve which supports our felt sense of wellbeing and social connection.

Chumki will be bring in some drums and shakers for everyone to use. Please feel free to either sing along; meditate or move with the Kirtan music. There is no music experience needed, only a heart to be open to receiving and be in community.
